We currently provide a distance learning programme through 2 colleges, up to and including year 9 Mercers College and for year 10 and 11(14 years of age GCSE) Oxford Distance Learning programme. Tutors can be scheduled for the various subjects together with peripatetic teachers available for music.
The Academy is actually situated on the site of Newstead School for Girls (year 9 to 13) and we are currently negotiating with the school a scholarship tennis program to commence in September 2007. The pupil will be required to meet the academic entry level of the School, however will be allowed to do a reduced GCSE timetable, which will enable the pupil to commit to a ‘fuller time' tennis program with the Bromley Tennis Academy.
LTA AASE Scheme
The Appointed Apprenticeship for Sporting Excellence was introduced into some Academies in 2006. We will be commencing the government backed scheme in September 2007. It is for players 16 and over that have completed their GCSE's but wish to pursue their sport fuller time whilst in parallel gaining some form of higher education e.g. 2A levels at College or Distance Learning.
The Bromley Tennis Academy delivers the NVQ level 3 which is monitored by the LTA Coach Education Department. The 50 week programme is spread over 2 years and incorporates 2 hours per week tutoring and up to 10 hours of tennis training which can be divided into 6 hours tennis and 4 hours fitness.
All players that would like to do the AASE Scheme must be on our fuller or full time programme.
The Scheme also provides the LTA UK Sport Level 1 and Level 2 Tennis Coaching qualifications, free within the scheme.
